KINSTON BROWNFIELDS PROGRAM
In 2014 Kinston was awarded two EPA Brownfield Grants totaling $400,000 to assess abandoned, idle, or underutilized properties in our community through our Brownfields Program. In 2018 the City was awarded a $200,000 cleanup grant to address contamination at the former Harvey Oil site. Remnant petroleum contamination from former operations will be cleaned up using this grant and the site will be put back into productive reuse, supporting operations at the adjacent Grainger Stadium. The City welcomes all comments and input from the community on cleanup activities and the current/future use of this site. Please contact Adam Short, the City Planning Director, with any questions, comments or input about our program (252-939-3269 or firstname.lastname@example.org ). Updates will also be given at City Council meetings and posted on our Twitter page.
