ElectriCities is a membership organization including public power communities in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. ElectriCities also provides management services to the state's two municipal power agencies - North Carolina Municipal Power Agency Number 1 and North Carolina Eastern Municipal Power Agency. They serve the needs of public power communities through collective strength, wisdom and action while promoting a more successful future for our citizens.

 

NCEMPA ASSET SALE UPDATES

9/21/15- Kinston City Council voted unanimously to reduce electric rates by an average of 10%. To view release, click here.

7/31/15-NCEMPA Asset Sale is now complete, we are excited to pursue rate reductions for our customers in the coming months!

6/1/15- Kinston City Council voted unanimously to sell our assets to Duke Energy. We are looking forward to retail rate decrease in the fall.

5/8/15 - NCEMPA Asset Sale documents have been released. To view them in their entirety, click here.

4/2/15 - Governor Pat McCrory signed legislation approving NCEMPA Asset Sale.

3/31/15 - NC House unanimously passes NCEMPA Asset Sale 115-0.

3/25/15 - In a 47-1 vote, the NC Senate okayed the plan that allows Duke Energy Progress to purchase Electricities stake in nuclear power plants. -WITN

3/17/15 - Two bills were recently filed related to the NCEMPA Asset Sale. The companion bills are House Bill 265 "NCEMPA Sale" and Senate Bill 305 "NCEMPA Asset Sale." This legislation is needed to complete the sale of NCEMPA's generation assets to Duke Energy Progress and is a critical next step in the approval process.
